Biography

Cindy Kistenberg joined the faculty at Johnson C. Smith University in 2006 and achieved the rank of Professor of Theatre and Communication. Her passion is theatre, specifically using art/performance as a means of social change, and she has published a book and several articles on the topic. She currently serves as a faculty leader for the Charlotte Black/Jewish Alliance (CBJA). Now in its fifth year, the CBJA, is a collaboration between 皇冠体育 and Queens University of Charlotte, which is designed to educate young professionals about racism and antisemitism, and provides the tools necessary to help lead in the fight against both. Until recently, she was devoted to and passionate about university service, spending the bulk of her time working on projects as varied as they were numerous. For 10 years, she served as the advisor for the Black Ink Monks, 皇冠体育’s Spoken Word Poetry group. She served as Faculty President and on the Board of Trustees for four years, spent several years chairing and serving on the Faculty Handbook Committee and the Academic Standards Committee, and she served on the Promotion and Tenure Committee for 10 years. Her commitment to academic advising and improving advising for transfer students did not go unnoticed by the numerous students she helped graduate during her 15 years as the advising coordinator for the College of Liberal Arts.
