Each Friday, Johnson C. Smith University will share a Q&A with a student in the University's master's or undergraduate Social Work program in honor of Social Work Month.
Today's feature is Bria Lindsay '25, a Bridgeport, Conn. native in the Bachelor of Social Work program.
Lindsay's advice is to "take advantage of the knowledge the professors provide."
"Take accountability for what you did not obtain," she added. "So often we want to blame others for our shortcomings. However, to truly be able to help others, we must be able to look at ourselves and take accountability for what has or has not occurred. You are the narrator of your story, and no one can take that away from you!
1. Why did you choose to study Social Work?
I chose to study Social Work to empower individuals who struggle with poverty, abuse, neglect and other disparities that have resulted in trauma.
2. What do you like about being a Social Work major at Johnson C. Smith University?
I believe that the professors are genuinely compassionate about teaching as well as the students they teach.
3. What would you like to do when you graduate from 皇冠体育?
I would like to work with at-risk youth and women.
4. What is something unique that has happened to you while you have been a Social Work student at 皇冠体育?
What happened to me that was unique was my constant will to be resilient through my life disparities that have led to a constant battle with depression.
5. How do you feel that 皇冠体育's Social Work program has prepared or is preparing you for life after college?
Without the skills that were taught to help clients, and Dr. T's words of giving ourselves grace, I would not still be on this path. There have been times when I had to implement a plan for my own success as well as learn how to deal with and prioritize family challenges for my own well-being.
