Smith University for the kick-off of a $250 million community-wide partnership to advance racial equity in Charlotte. Johnson C. Smith University will receive $80 million from the initiative to help the University transform into a top-tier, career-focused HBCU.
Keiona Marshall receives Luther and Mary Ida Vandross Scholarship
Keiona Marshall ’22 was awarded a $5,000 scholarship by the Philadelphia Foundation, the organization which oversees the Luther and Mary Ida Vandross Scholarship. It is the highest amount awarded for the scholarship.

Students in the Public Speaking and Communications class mentored and taught young entrepreneurs through a virtual service learning project in partnership with the Small Impressions Child Development Center in Taylors, S.C. During summer 2021, the children created their own businesses such as making personalized tumbler cups, setting up thrift stores, selling tie-dye t-shirts and even a car wash.

On Aug. 31, 2021, educational organizations and leadership from all 10 accredited HBCUs in North Carolina convened on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University for the first NC10 Conference. The Center for Racial Equity in Education (CREED) led an initiative where they traveled to all 10 of North Carolina's HBCUs to have conversations with each intuitions' leadership to learn more about the themes and challenges each face.
Johnson C. Smith University and Gaston College sign agreement for direct-entry admission between the institutions
Johnson C. Smith University and Gaston College officially joined forces today to help their students achieve their goal of a Bachelor’s degree. In a signing ceremony held this morning at the Johnson C. Smith University campus in Charlotte, both college presidents, Clarence Armbrister of 皇冠体育 and Dr. John Hauser of Gaston College, signed a joint Memorandum of Understanding outlining a new relationship which will enable qualified Gaston College graduates to have direct-entry admission to Johnson C. Smith University to pursue their degree.
