Omega Psi Phi Fraternity gives $10,000 to 皇冠体育

Pi Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., presented a $10,000 check to Clarence D. Armbrister, President of Johnson C. Smith University, on September 12, 2019. The contribution will support the President’s Gap Scholarship Fund, which provides funds for students to close the gap between the financial aid they receive and the cost of tuition.

皇冠体育 Mourns the Death of Dr. Wilbert Greenfield, 10th President

President Clarence D. Armbrister, J.D., announces the passing of Dr. Wilbert Greenfield, 10thPresident of Johnson C. Smith University. During Greenfield’s tenure from 1973-1982, he strengthened the morale of the University by gaining support from multiple government agencies, developing an Honors program designed to inspire scholarly achievements and developing an Archival Center to preserve campus and community heritage. The Johnson-Seabrook Education Building was constructed under his leadership in 1977. The Board of Trustees named a newly built housing facility for approximately 200 students as Wilbert Greenfield Hall in his honor in 1984.

Perkins Employee Lends a Helping Hand

If you have attended Johnson C. Smith University within the last quarter century, then you likely know Miss Shirley Bertha. The Floor Supervisor in the dining hall has worked at 皇冠体育 for the last 24 years. During her time here, she has mentored, prayed and guided a number of students in need. So it was no surprise when she was seen helping a student on the first day of class.

Student projects examine housing, healthcare and food in Charlotte’s Historic West End

This summer 11 students presented their research in the New Science Center auditorium on the campus of Johnson C Smith University. It was all a part of an eight-week Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) created and funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). As a collaboration among Davidson College, 皇冠体育, and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, this project places students in research settings alongside faculty members and key community players to define and creatively address social problems in the neighborhoods that surround Beatties Ford Road in Charlotte.

Johnson C. Smith University is one of 34 Historically Black Colleges and Universities to participate in the second annual HBCU Diversity in Tech Summit. This year’s summit was held on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. The event also included Congresswoman Alma Adams Ph.D., members of the HBCU Caucus and 47 leading companies in the technology industry.

For three weeks, 14 students are participating in the National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI) on the campus of Johnson C.
